Hey Y’all!
Growing up on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, I was raised eating the freshest seafood. From fried fish and garlic grits to full-blown shrimp and crawfish boils, all of our family and social gatherings were centered on great meals and close friends! We ate seafood any way my Mamma or Aunt Cheryl prepared it – raw, boiled, fried or broiled. It was always fresh, always delicious and always comforting. Biloxi, Miss. was once known as the “Seafood Capital of the World” so I’m thrilled that this issue of ¡Sabroso! is about something so close to my heart and my hometown.
Our Outdoor Seafood Celebration (pg. 22) will inspire any good host to throw a dinner party for all of their seafood loving friends! We’ll show you how to prepare this event from invitations, to table settings, to the most important part – the menu. So get ready for Corn & Lobster Fritters and a sassy Margarita Crème Brule. Anchors Away!
In keeping with our seafood theme, I visited two restaurants whose menus concentrate on the ocean’s offerings. Delaney’s Seafood in El Paso boasts an impressive array of high-end seafood dishes while Aqua Reef in Las Cruces uses the sea ingredients in imaginative Asian-Fusion
creations (pgs. 44 and 46).
This issue launches a new healthy living section called Body, Mind & Spirit (pg. 55). We’re very excited to educate our readers in the latest relaxation and exercise techniques, beauty and health trends and the overall wonderful sense of well being. We know how important living healthy is and can’t wait to help in any way we can! This issue we’re concentrating on relaxing baths, various spa treatments, a new type of exercise called
pi-yoga and the most helpful home remedies. There’s even information on how to start your own garden so you can be both economical and organic!
I hope you enjoy reading this issue as much as we enjoyed putting it together.
Happy Eating!
